alance is something that most people work hard to achieve, but for Andrea Brown, it’s something that she has finally mastered! Her beautiful, colorful recipes are proof that eating real foods and leading a healthy lifestyle is ANYTHING but boring.
We take a deeper look at the colorful, fun world of @balancingandie!
AH: What’s the story behind @balancingandie? What inspired you to start the account?
AB: I actually started my account not knowing why I was starting it or where I wanted it to go but only to show everyone that eating healthy doesn’t HAVE to be complicated, taste gross or take hours to make. Growing up, I ate poorly (think Cheeze Whiz and pop tarts – on the regular), had terrible food habits and didn’t exercise so since then, I’ve been on quite the journey over the years with my weight being up and down, anxiety, stress etc. and I have finally found a balanced way to eat and live.
I never expected to start a blog because I never saw myself as a writer/blogger but I have really developed the little flame I had inside me all along I guess. Now I love having an outlet, the community that comes along with it and the support I get. I feel like I have friends all over the world!
AH: What would you say is your main mission with your account, what are your future aspirations for it?
AB: I want to help people feel the best they can in their skin by changing their diet. May that be acknowledging food intolerances they are unaware of, eating a balanced diet or stopping their continuous cycles of fad diets! I think there is a diet for everyone but not one that is necessarily labelled.
Particularly because diets are short lived and not sustainable to a lot of people. If you can find a balanced approach to what works for you, then does it really need a label? Not to mention, what works for one person may not work for the next. We are all so unique and learning our bodies and going back to realizing how we feel when we feel a certain way is something I want to promote.
AH: What would you say is your number one tip for those who are trying to maintain a positive attitude in today’s current world? How do you maintain your higher vibration?
AB: Don’t get caught up in the hype/comparison trap. In today’s world, it’s hard not to get swept up in the social media realm and think you need everything from collagen to adaptogens to crystals to fairy dust. Yes, those things are great to add to your diet but your diet should be mostly clean and nourishing first.
Adding ingredients like that will not clean up the damage from not nourishing your body appropriately. Not to mention, that stuff is expensive! I really believe that nourishment should come from whole foods first and then if you have the funds, go wild! I really, really, really try to not compare myself to others so I know first hand how hard it is but whenever I catch myself getting down in that rabbit hole, I remind myself of this:

AH: Where do you look for inspiration when it comes to developing your colorful recipes and plates?
AB: My mom has been a huge inspiration to me in the kitchen. For as long as I can remember, I was always in the kitchen helping her with dinner and wanting to do what she did. She is so fast, so efficient and makes everything from memory, which is how I cook too.
You’d be surprised to know that since I do recipes but it’s SO hard for me to measure properly…even baking but I do it so others can enjoy the yummiest food too! Other than my mom, I watch ALL the shows on the food network all the time. It’s so fun to see them cook with ingredients I’ve never heard of or tried. I really think inspiration is all around us so I could really go on and on about this topic.
AH: What is your FAVORITE go-to recipe that is truly on brand with @balancingandie?
AB: Everyone who knows me would know that I love smoothies! They are the perfect breakfast to me because I can literally pack in so many nutrients and keep myself full for a lot longer than I would be if I grabbed a pastry and coffee on my way to work.
I love that smoothies are so versatile and how many different vegetables can be hidden in them so we start our day with a balanced breakfast! Some examples would be zucchini, cauliflower, squash etc.
This one is made with purple sweet potato, almond milk, frozen squash, maca powder and collagen.
