ooking to be Berry Fit by the end of this year? She’s #Fitspo in the flesh, nutrionist and fitness trainer Berri shares her wellness journey with us and an exclusive recipe for our #PrettyEatsTribe!
AH: Give us a little intro on how BerryFit came about?
Hi! I’m Berri from Berry B Fit. Berry B Fit, is my baby, and it’s a brand that came from my passion to educate, engage, and inspire women to live their healthiest and fittest life, but most importantly their best life. Berry B Fit is all about encouraging women to move, nourish, and thrive in life. Since my name is Berri Berry, I thought it’d be cool to just call it Berry B Fit. It’s a way to explain my fitness philosophy, but a reminder for me to always be fit.
AH: Did you always know that you wanted to dive into nutrition/fitness space? Was there some sort of AHA moment?
To be 100% honest, absolutely not! I had no idea I’d dive into nutrition and fitness the way I have, but I suppose all my life I’ve been preparing for it. I’ve always been into sports. I played volleyball, basketball, soccer and I ran track for about 13 years.
From elementary school, to middle + high school, even into college, running in circles was just fun. As I got older and wanted to perfect my craft, I really began to take an interest in nutrition. After a few university classes, numerous Netflix documentaries along with personal experimentation, I was head over heels in love with nutrition and finding the best “diet for me.” Once I graduated from college and went to corporate America I totally had an AHA moment. Believe it or not my degrees are in Political Science, Arabic, and German (clearly nothing to do with fitness, nutrition, and women’s health).
I remember, thinking to myself, I don’t want to be that unhappy in life. So I decided to just go for it.
I remember being at work one day, you know the regular 9-5 life, and all my co-workers were just complaining. They hated their jobs, they hated their diets, appearance, and well it seemed like they were just so unhappy. Not to mention they were all older than me. I remember, thinking to myself, I don’t want to be that unhappy in life. So I decided to just go for it. In March of 2017 I got certified as a Nutritionist, then in June of 2017 I received my certification as a Personal Trainer. In August of 2017, I left my corporate job behind, and went full force into what I’m doing now, as a nutritionist, trainer, and influencer.
AH: Tell us more about the Love Your Body Collective, what is the main focus of this? Is it an extension of BerryFit brand?
The Love Your Body Collective is my latest baby. I believe that in order to live your best life, you really need to love your body. The main focus of LYBC is to teach women how to love their bodies. I like to think of it as a resource for women. LYBC is an extension of the Berry B Fit brand. It’s a space where women can come together and really build a well knit community.
LYBC is more than a one woman show, and my hope is to have other women contribute, and work with me. It is still in it’s infancy, but I think for me it’s something I had to put out there. I wanted to make a separation between my services as a nutritionist and personal trainer, and a community. I think that sometimes, lines get blurred when it comes to business, so LYBC is my way of making a distinction. If people want me to train them or coach them, then they can reach out to me on Berry B Fit, but if they just want some fun, quick, and easy go to resources, then LYBC is the place to be.
I don’t think the battle is between a healthy diet vs. working out harder, I think the battle is within, and finding your personal balance.
AH: What would be your number one tip for someone who has been trying commit to a more healthy lifestyle?
My number one tip for someone who is trying to commit to a more healthy lifestyle is to live your life for you and don’t compare your step 1 to someone else’s step 5. Comparison, is one of the biggest set backs on a health journey and I think keeping the relationship personal and comparing yourself, to the person you were yesterday, is the best thing you can do. Just live your best life boo!
AH: Being a nutritionist and a personal trainer can you tell us how much does your diet influence your workout, your weightloss goals, is it really all about a healthy diet vs. working out harder?
Ahh! I love this question. You know, I think it varies from person to person, but here’s the Berry B Fit philosophy 80% nutrition 20% fitness. I’m a firm believer that you are what you eat. See health is really about what works for you and your lifestyle, not necessarily the standard that society says you have to measure up to.
AH: Can you give us a short run-through of what a typical day looks like in the life of Berri?
A typical day in my life, is quite uneventful. I wake up at about 6am, and I do power hour which is 20 minutes of reading, 20 minutes of journalling, and 20 minutes of moving. I then make some coffee or a matcha latte, and cuddle with my puppy until it’s time for his morning walk. After that I get ready for my day, which starts at about 8am.
From 8-9am, I get some social media stuff done. Starting at about 9am, I do the business side of things like answering emails, scheduling appointments, conference calls and touch points with clients which usually ends around 11:30am. Somewhere in between I eat breakfast or make a smoothie bowl. From 11:30-1, I have lunch and make something super yummy, and of course take pictures. From 1-3:30 I work on a lot of content creation whether it’s a blog post, youtube video, or even something for instagram, oh and snack a bit more and play with the pup.
At about 3:45, I get ready to do one of two things, meet with a client or wrap my day. While I do most of my personal training virtually, I do have a few clients I meet in person. At about 4 or 5, I do a 30 minute at home workout, some days I go to the gym, but I love at home workouts, and that about sums up my typical day.
