Lifestyle Diaries: Cali Dreaming with Kayla Saint Blanc

S unny on the inside, it’s a phrase I could use to describe Kayla’s natural, infectious glow. We met a while back during New Orleans Fashion Week and ever since I have followed her continuous success from launching her own fashion line to working for one of the hottest fashion brands amongst celebrities!

So how does she do it?

What’s a day in the life of Kayla?

My weekdays start with waking up every morning at 6:15am and going straight into my skincare routine (face rolling, cleanse, tone, a few different oils and moisturize!)

While that’s sinking in I check my emails and my social media feeds then go straight into my makeup – which I’ve mastered in under 10 minutes these days. Since starting my career at Chrome Hearts I put a lot of focus into my outfit and accessories because our office is buzzing with some of the coolest people in the industry, I usually plan this out the night before! I make my breakfast smoothie, pour my ginger tea in a to-go cup and I’m out the door.

I’ve hit the jackpot of LA commutes because it only takes me 15 minutes to get to work and this has been life altering for me. Everyday at the office is different, which I love! I work in the eyewear department so I’m getting to learn so many things about design and functionality of sunglasses (I’m trying to dominate every aspect of the fashion industry 😉 ). ** To which I have no doubt you will Kayla, this is me chiming in a bit of commentary, YAS KWEEN!**!

“BE THE LIGHT” – this one comes from my mom, it’s something she’s told me my entire life and something I constantly remind myself. In every aspect of life I aim to spread positivity, inspiration and kindness.

One thing that remains constant is my gallon water jug, which I drink daily. When I get off of work I head straight to the gym (6 days a week) and usually put in about an hour focusing on strength and endurance training while also filming workouts for social media. I run home to warm up dinner. Meal prepping dinner for the week on Sundays has been a huge time saver for me.

While I’m eating I’m either deep in emails, or writing down ideas & creative concepts for photo shoots. I spend the remaining time of my night in a Lush face mask while finishing up whatever project I’m working on at the moment (currently cutting & sewing). I’m usually asleep by 11pm!

On Morning workouts

I love to stretch in the morning and hit the gym after work during the week! On the weekends I like to do really intense morning workouts, a hike at Runyon Canyon or the Santa Monica stairs!

Favorite workout classes

LIT method (rowing & TRX combo), Hot Yoga at Y7 studio (they have a Drake themed class and it’s the best thing ever), and Rise NationRise NationRise Nation(indoor climbing)

Favorite coffee spots before commute

My favorite coffee spot is Black Dog Coffee.. the cold brew is so intense and delicious!

What is it like owning your own business as a young millennial woman? What are your biggest challenges?

When I first started my business I was fresh out of college and literally began with a dollar and a dream. Once I started showing my designs on the runway and doing my own marketing campaigns everything really took off and then things got quite difficult, because I design/cut/sew everything myself.

Since then I’ve only taken on more projects and pursued new business ideas. I’d say one of my biggest challenges is learning to streamline my ideas and focusing on a couple things at a time rather than trying to juggle 50 things at once.

What’s the inspiration behind Lax Only? What are your goals for it?

The inspiration behind LAX ONLY came from my love for LA street wear combined with my passion for high fashion. I wanted to build a brand like no other I’ve seen and I wanted to create something that could inspire the idea that you could blend both worlds of street wear and high fashion seamlessly and effortlessly while keeping my personal touch throughout each piece.

My main goal for LAX ONLY is to evolve and grow as I’m doing so in my personal life. Currently, I’m working on a collection that’s SO different than anything I’ve ever done and I’ve been heavily focused on rebranding and making it fresh. The thing I love most about having my own brand is being able to design whatever I want with absolutely no rules.

How do you balance running your own business while maintaining a healthy, balance lifestyle?

I find prepping and planning to be essential to my everyday balance. Since I’ve started making my meals and planning my workouts on the weekend it leaves me with so much more time to balance my business and passions during the week.

My meal plans revolve around a vegetarian/plant based diet (I’ve found this so effective and healing in so many ways):

  • Breakfast: smoothie!! I’ve had a smoothie everyday for breakfast for the past 2 years – I’m addicted to fruit and I change it up daily so it never gets old to me! Its also the perfect way to incorporate protein, vitamins and beneficial spices into one meal.
  • Snacks: I usually always carry snacks with me – hummus with baby carrots, celery with crunchy peanut butter or almonds are my favorites! ** Sounds like a sound life advice!**
  • Lunch: usually a homemade power bow that includes quinoa, avocado, veggies, and tofu. I always switch the ingredients up so I never get bored.
  • Dinner: most days I’ll make a big salad using veggies, fruit, nuts, whatever I’m feeling that day. I usually chop all my veggies during my meal prep so all I have to do is throw it together in a bowl!

During the weekends I love to spend a little more time cooking and trying new recipes from Instagram or celeb cookbooks, one of my current favorite recipes is Chrissy Teigan’s Thai sticky rice! It’s a healthier version of sticky rice and so addicting! **Ummm… do you deliver?!**

I also drink 1 gallon of water everyday! I’ve been doing so for the past year and it’s changed my skin, hair and nails dramatically!

Favorite Lunch Spot

I love making my own lunch but my favorite spot to eat out is Veggie Grill! The Greek power greens salad with falafel is my jam!

Favorite Happy Hours in LA

Melrose Umbrella Co and Spare Tire Tavern. Amazing vibes, interior décor and drinks!

Where do you find inspiration whenever you need to recharge or balance it out?

When I really need to recharge and balance I go for anything outdoors. I love long walks through the city, going to Santa Monica beach or working in my garden.

Also love attending concerts whenever I can or trying new restaurants around the city. Food and music give me SO much creative energy!

What is one mantra that inspires you on a daily basis?

“BE THE LIGHT” – this one comes from my mom, it’s something she’s told me my entire life and something I constantly remind myself. In every aspect of life I aim to spread positivity, inspiration and kindness.

2.     My second favorite spot is Kreation Organic Juicery. Fresh juices, smoothies and amazing avocado toast! They even drop a little chlorophyll in your water for extra hydration.

3.     Another favorite is Gracias Madre! Vegan Mexican food and it is SO amazing. I recommend everyone trying this place when visiting LA. My favorite dish is the Sopes Con Mango.

4.     Café Gratitude is my favorite healthy brunch spot. Every dish is named using key words like “Gracious” summer grain salad, “Intuitive” French fries, and my personal favorite, “Vivid” Acai Superfood Bowl. They also offer an array of fresh fruit juices!

** This SOUNDS BEYOND AMAZING**
